Breeze is now enjoying the life of retirement!
Old Beach Gitche Gumee Breeze
Birth Date: April 13, 2011
Color: Blue Merle with copper trim
Eyes: Right eye Blue, Left eye Brown
Breeze is part Twin Oaks lines and part Gearhart lines.(pedigree at bottom of page) She is the "standard" aussie by all means. She is the perfect balance of her sire and dam, structurally as well as temperment and personality. She was raised with children and on our farm, so she is a loving girl and a great watch dog! My 4 year old daughter typically uses her a a pillow!
Breeze will be OFA hips and eyes cleared this coming summer.
A short history....
Old Beach (our farm is on what would have been Lake Duluth beach front property, but is now 400 ft above Lake Superior)
Lake Duluth was a proglacial lake that formed in the Lake Superior drainage basin as the Laurentide ice sheet retreated. The oldest existing shorelines were formed after retreat from the Greatlakean advance, sometime around 11,000 years B.P. Lake Duluth formed at the western end of the Lake Superior basin. Lake Duluth overflowed south through outlets in Minnesota and Wisconsin at an elevation of around 331 m ASL.
The Ojibwe call the lake Gichigami, meaning "big water." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the name as "Gitche Gumee" in The Song of Hiawatha, as did Gordon Lightfoot in his song, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".
Her sire is Pilot and her dam is Storm. And from the Pilot and the Storm there was a beautiful Breeze!
